cyberspace: silent protest, loud voices being heard around the world

the youths revolutions thrive on the social networking sites. They transfer dates and times of when protest will be carried out. They share information about the brutal government system they must live day to day with the world. Also, even if the youth are not using it to protest, they use it to meet lovers, and new acquaintances. Sites like these allow a break from the restrictive and controlling government/morals police. The Internet can't be controlled and viewed at all hours/minutes/seconds/ or maybe even years.  The social networking sites such as facebook and twitter would have never been shut down if the government didn't view them as a threat against their private way of life, there are many more users than government officials, and if all were to use it at once, i think they would be able to successfully gain access to any site they wanted. Technology as a whole allows access to the world, and fellow iranians. it helps to share day to day information, and it could possibly save lives. The internet plays major roles in protests, and politics, one day it could possibly over throw the government and lead the youth to a new way of life...the way they want it. They want a friendly relationship with the u.s? well if they were to successfully use the internet and overthrow their hardliner leader, i think that could happen:)

  1. I think it's cool, how like you said, that the internet isn't just an avenue for organizing protests in Iran, it's become a social hype. The internet is such a powerful thing, that we don't realize here in the U.S. at times, but Iranian youth has. They are taking advantage of this awesome resource. I also thing that it's pretty amazing how we are able to get a look at their perspectives through the internet because they are putting the information out there, we just need to know how to look for it. I agree that the internet could be the path to the overthrow of the Iranian regime and better relations with the U.S. as well! I think it would be really exciting to see that happen!
